PATROL DATES
Standard Patrolling Procedures
Patrol Hours are:
Saturdays Midday to 5.00pm
Sundays 10.00am to 5.00pm
Public Holidays 10.00am to 5.00pm
The Patrol Season will commence on the first Saturday after Labour Weekend each year and finish on the last weekend in March.
If, in mid-summer when crowds are heavy beyond 5.00pm, you are able to continue patrolling to 6.00pm it would be good public relations / service to do so.
All Westshore Lifeguards are expected to do a minimum of 25 hours of patrol duty this summer to be eligible to attend the SLSNZ Surf Lifesaving Championships in March. The Board of Directors will be monitoring patrol hours over the season and will enforce this minimum requirement.
If unable to attend a Rostered Patrol, it is each individual Lifeguard’s responsibility to organise a suitably “Qualified” Substitute ie IRB Driver needs to get a replacement IRB Driver. Always advise your patrol Captain when you are making substitutions. A book will be placed in the clubrooms for you record any roster changes in so that the Patrol Captain will know who should be on patrol. Remember our ‘Primary’ DUTY is to lifeguard our beach and this can only be achieved when you or an appointed substitute do your Patrols as rostered .
As new members qualify they will be added to the Patrol Roster into existing patrols.Other members, who are not rostered on that patrol on that particular day, are able to assist the Club by doing “voluntary” patrol on that day. This is not a “substitute” situation nor does it exempt the member from any of their normal “rostered” patrols in future. Any Lifeguard wishing to do a “voluntary” patrol on any day must report to the Patrol Captain, in full uniform, and be signed in by the Patrol Captain who will then allocate them duties on that patrol. NO member will sign themselves in on any patrol.
